'Ray Donovan' Actress Mary Mara's Cause of Death Released

ER actress Mary Mara‘s cause of death has been released.

If you didn’t see the news, the 61-year-old Ray Donovan actress passed away after going swimming in the St. Lawrence River in New York.

“The Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office performed a post-mortem examination on the decedent and determined that the decedent’s manner of death was an accident, due to asphyxiation, due to warm water drowning,” NYSP Troop D Public Information Officer Jack Keller said.

People also confirmed one report about the actress was inaccurate. “There were no signs of any trauma to Mary’s body when she was found,” police said about a report that she showed signs of trauma suggesting perhaps she slipped and fell while getting out of the water, hitting her head.

You might recognize Mary from playing Mrs. Sullivan in season one of Showtime’s Ray Donovan. Her other TV credits include ER, NYPD Blue, Lost, and Law and Order.
